Biomimetic dentistry · Langdon, Alberta

At Langdon Dental Associates, we practice biomimetic dentistry — an approach built on preserving as much of your natural tooth structure as possible while restoring strength, function, and appearance. The word “biomimetic” means to mimic biology, and that’s exactly the goal: restorations that behave like natural teeth, not just look like them.

This philosophy shapes every treatment decision we make, from a simple filling to a full-mouth reconstruction.

The philosophy

What Is Biomimetic Dentistry?

Traditional dentistry has often relied on removing large amounts of healthy tooth structure to make room for a crown or filling, sometimes weakening the tooth in the process. Biomimetic dentistry takes the opposite approach.

Rather than treating a cavity or crack as a reason for aggressive removal, we look at each tooth as a complex, load-bearing structure — one where preserving natural enamel and dentin keeps the tooth stronger, more flexible, and more resistant to future fracture. Where a traditional approach might call for a full crown, a biomimetic approach often allows for a smaller, more conservative restoration that bonds directly to the remaining healthy tooth.

Technology and training

How We Practice Biomimetic Dentistry

Our approach is only possible because of the technology and training behind it. At Langdon Dental Associates, that includes:

01

Same-day CEREC/CAD-CAM restorations

Custom-milled, tooth-colored restorations designed and placed in a single visit, precisely fitted to your natural tooth structure.

02

Advanced adhesive bonding techniques

Layered bonding protocols that restore a tooth's natural flexibility and strength, rather than relying on a rigid cap over a weakened core.

03

High magnification for precision procedures

High magnification for precision procedures are performed under magnification up to 10x, and a surgical microscope when needed, so we can see and treat details invisible to the naked eye and conserve the maximum amount of healthy tooth structure. Extensive, specialized training — beyond standard dental education, Dr. Jess has pursued dedicated mentorship and continuing education in biomimetic dentistry, including study under Dr. Pascal Magne, one of the field's founding pioneers.

04

A conservative-first mindset

Every treatment plan starts with the question, "What's the least invasive way to solve this well?"

Is this right for you?

Who Benefits from Biomimetic Dentistry?

This approach applies to a wide range of situations, including:

Not every situation calls for a biomimetic approach

Some teeth genuinely need a crown or other restoration for long-term success. Part of our job is helping you understand which option truly fits your tooth, not applying a one-size-fits-all treatment plan.

A philosophy, not just a procedure

Biomimetic dentistry isn't a single technique — it's a mindset we bring to every appointment. It means taking the time to diagnose thoroughly, explain your options clearly, and choose the treatment that protects your long-term oral health, not just the treatment that's fastest or most familiar.

See the difference

Precision, magnified.

Every biomimetic restoration starts with detailed imaging and careful, tooth-by-tooth planning.
