What are All-on-4s?
All-on-4s refer to a procedure that utilizes four strategically placed implants to secure a denture in place. The implants are inserted deep into the bone of the jaw and given several months to bond with the bone. Once healed, a new denture can be made for you that sits and snaps onto the implants. Implant-supported dentures are more secure and will not slip or fall out like old pairs you’ve had in the past.
Why are All-on-4s needed?
You may want or even require all-on-4s if your denture is constantly slipping and falling out. If your dentures are uncomfortable or don’t fit well, implants can keep them in place and provide you with an even, custom-made fit. Implants are relatively permanent in nature, so once they’ve been given time to heal and fuse with the bone, you can expect decades of secure, comfortable use. Your all-on-4s denture won’t require adhesive, gels, creams or bonding strips to keep in place.
What makes you a good candidate for All-on-4s?
In order for the implants to be successful, it’s important that you have adequate bone structure where the restorations will be placed. If you’ve suffered bone loss, a bone grafting may be recommended prior to the implant surgery. You should be healthy enough to undergo oral surgery since you may require general sedation to properly place the implants. A comprehensive examination and consultation will be done prior to the all-on-4s procedure and we will take special x-ray images to help us see your bone structure, underlying nerve pathways and other intra-oral considerations.
What can you expect with the All-on-4s procedure?
Before the procedure starts, you’ll come in for a consultation and exam. We will use the information gathered from this appointment to create a detailed plan for implant placement. You will then come in to have the actual implants placed. Four implants are placed either on the top or bottom arch, or you can have both arches treated at the same time. The implants are inserted deep into the bone and the gums sutured to promote even healing. Your implants will heal and fuse with the existing bone in a few months. After the implants have completely healed, you’ll have a brand new denture made that fits easily and comfortably on top of these implants.
